FANDO AND LIS
OPERA IN A PROLOGUE AND SIX MOVEMENTS
"The expressive score of French composer Benoît Menut (born in 1977) is written to highlight the voices (...) It remains to be hoped that this show, in every way successful, will be programmed in the future by others Operas, as risk-minded as that of Saint-Etienne "- Opéra Magazine, June 2018"
The book has kept all the promises of a great contemporary opera" - l'Essor, 04.12.2018
"This very special conversation in music abounds with ideas, gestures and harmonies" - Anaclase, 06.04.2018
On Wednesday evening, the premiere of this contemporary opera rocked, sometimes thrilled the audience. In any event, it left no one indifferent." - The Progress, 05.04.2018

"The discovery of this story was a shock: how to sing the love yet present between these two characters, despite the link of extreme violence that unites them, how to set a music rape and respect the character of Lis, how to sing Fascist drift of men at the end of the show? It is trying to enter the psyche of the protagonists, symbolizing the events that I discovered the key.
I can't help it: a Cake-Walk, an apocryphal Breton tune, a superposition of a dozen songs representing different fascisms, a love aria with a marked tone, spectral moments ... all at service of a unity carried by history and recurring musical motifs structuring memory.
I dreamed of this opera, synthesized my various researches there for almost 20 years. For me, there is a before and after Fando and Lis "
